What courses do I need to take to become a Web Designer for High School & University ?

When your hobby becomes your profession, your profession becomes your passion so first identify your hobby & go for your passion if you have any, If you don’t have, it doesn’t matter what you choose. Webdesign can be a lot of fun to learn, however it’s very time consuming. Different professionals go different directions… Linux based & Windows Based.
Linux is more of CGI, Python, Perl
Windows is more ASP, ASP.NET, .NET (which is how I design all my websites.. if it’s good enough for companies like Jaguar, it’s good enough for me)
There is also software.
You can learn stuff like FrontPage, Coolpage, LiquidFX, & you can be ridiculed by professionals.
Or you can use the industry standard which is Dreamweaver. It’s the best, hand’s down. Anyone whose been in the business on a professional level will tell you to go with Dreamweaver.
You need to know basic photo editing.
Fireworks, Photoshop, JASC & Corel, all provide great photoediting software. JASC for it’s money ($99) will work just fine for basic web editing.
So, from my standpoint if you know the following setup, people will be crawling to you…

ASP 3.0
HTML 4.0
CGI / PERL
Python
Photoshop CS2
Dreamweaver 8

think its something i would like to do, but have no qualifications it the I.T department & would have to pretty much start from scratch on this topic!

Could you name me sites, cheap or free online classes, books, & forums on html. I guess I will learn the other languages later, but I’m doing this more as a hobby. I don’t feel like going to a community college to learn this stuff, maybe an adult education center though. Could you also recommend other languages that I could learn to be a good amateur web designer? I also want to build my own website.

Please give me your recommendations of steps to become a good Web Designer. There should some either online tutorials or books or video. I’d like to understand
1. color mixing schemes – which colors will look better with each other.
2. Software(photoshop, …)
3. Where to look for latest trends in web design
4. any other suggestions ….

I’m a 22 year old guy & i just started to learn web designing, ive got the hang of xhtml & ive nearly finished learning it, but after that i need to do css.dreamweaver.firework’s.and javascript. but i’m wondering if i can learn to be a web design master by reading good book’s & good online tutorial’s as i prefere to learn by book’s & internet tutorial’s, ive set myself to do at least 2 hour’s a day but i mainly do 3 hour’s a day most of the time,but i’m not sure roughly how long it will be until i’m a pro,but i do pick thing’s up quick.so can i become a pro by learning this way without having to go to college & other places? thank’s for your time & answers.

I’ve had a bit of knowledge about HTML / XHTML / CSS for a few years now, currently trying to concrete that knowledge with some kind of Web Design degree…
What programming / knowledge would you recommend to become a good Web Designer..?
- Obviously graphic design knowledge & general good sense of style…
Should I be able to write shopping cart programmes, Action Scripting, PHP, My SQL..??

i recently purchased a domain name that came with a free web host, but the host does not come with enough features for my site. I predict my site will become well known rather quickly so I want to be prepared for it by having the right web host.
What I’m lookin for is a host similar to those used by youtube and/or myspace as those sites have similar features that mine will have(and no its not any kind of knock-off of either of these sites)
Also if there is anyone around the northern ohio area who knows about web design & would like to be the lead designer(as I don’t know too much about web design) & be my partner in this project. Please e-mail me if you are serious about designing(you will be paid for your services) & becoming a partner in this soon to be world renowned site.

Does anyone know of any good packages to learn, so if I go for an interview I have a good chance??

to learn all the computer languages I need to know. I know html that is all. What else do I need to learn (like java) & how long does it take to learn all this stuff. Also what exactly is C++, MySql, etc & is it necessary to learn to design web pages? I appreciate all advice because I have just begun a web desin course & want to do this as my future career.

There are so many good web schools, Peterson’s is a good start, but they aren’t always up to date with majors & schools, so also talk to your guidance counselor if you are still in H.S.
Look for tech schools & art schools as well, US News tends to favor 4 year universities, & you may not want/need that for a degree in web design.
