Web Design Beginner

Im not actually going to make one but where would you start with such a huge project?

Legally I mean. And one that’s not a scam. I want to do a lot with a website, & I also want my own url.

I am part of cyber airlines & have created my own airline. Is there any website where you can create or customize liveries/airplanes. I would prefer it to be free. There should be one out there. Thanks!

I am trying to create a website & I would like it to have functionality similar to facebook or myspace where users can create their own profiles. I was told I would need a database for this the problem is I don’t know how to make one. can anyone help.

Upon entering employment as a Web Designer, Ive heard all you have to get is a Web Design certificate & that you don’t need a degree in college…I havent been to school in about 16 yrs due to having kids, etc…Not sure where to start. Have read books on Web Design & am very sure that that’s what I want to do. Please Help..Thank you in advance.

I’ve got a little online business that hasn’t taken off yet, & I need a good free website design program I can use since I’m not so technical.

Webdesign can be a lot of fun to learn, however it’s very time consuming. Different professionals go different directions… Linux based & Windows Based.
Linux is more of CGI, Python, Perl
Windows is more ASP, ASP.NET, .NET (which is how I design all my websites.. if it’s good enough for companies like Jaguar, it’s good enough for me)
There is also software.
You can learn stuff like FrontPage, Coolpage, LiquidFX, & you can be ridiculed by professionals.
Or you can use the industry standard which is Dreamweaver. It’s the best, hand’s down. Anyone whose been in the business on a professional level will tell you to go with Dreamweaver.
You need to know basic photo editing.
Fireworks, Photoshop, JASC & Corel, all provide great photoediting software. JASC for it’s money ($99) will work just fine for basic web editing.
So, from my standpoint if you know the following setup, people will be crawling to you…

Basically, for the past year I have immersed myself in web design, & I have learned the good parts of PHP, MySQL, XHTML, CSS, & Photoshop. I may not be an expert, I but I know a thing or two.
I just want to know exactly where I go from here. Not a lot of companies are looking for entry level web designers/web developers, & I just don’t know where to go. So what I want to know is where exactly am I supposed to start?

I’ve had a bit of knowledge about HTML / XHTML / CSS for a few years now, currently trying to concrete that knowledge with some kind of Web Design degree…
What programming / knowledge would you recommend to become a good Web Designer..?
- Obviously graphic design knowledge & general good sense of style…
Should I be able to write shopping cart programmes, Action Scripting, PHP, My SQL..??
