Web Design Beginner

I am a small business owner in the Indianapolis area & I am looking for a local web designer to help me design my website. I am not sure what I should be looking for in a web design company or what prices they charge. How can I find current prices for web design in Indianapolis? Can anyone recommend someone?

I would like to create a website for my mother’s spa business which specializes in beauty & what not. I was hoping someone may be able to help me w/ this. I think starting from scratch may be the option that appeals to me the most.

I’m currently majoring in nursing, & realized that I hate it. I really enjoy making websites & I would like to major in that instead. I’ve been looking at what employers want from a web designer & it’s usually a Bachelors in Computer Science. But I don’t understand how it all works… Do I get a BS in comp. sci & specialize in Web Design? I just want to know what kind of education I need or what I should be looking for in a school if I want to go into the workforce as a web designer/ developer… Thanks

I’m not sure where or what kind of education I need to get to become a professional web designer. I already have a Associate’s Degree from a community college from 5 yrs ago in basic stuff. I would like to get some kind of certification preferably or maybe a bachelor’s degree if it’s not to expensive. Is this something that’s required or should I just learn dreamweaver, flash & photoshop? Would that be enough? Thanks

You need to learn most HTML script & codes, & you will also need to learn other things such as Javascript, & how to use web editing programs such as DreamWeaver.

To be a professionl web DESIGNER (not developer), you need:
1. To be good at graphics (be an artist), & capable of using, properly, some graphic packages (Photoshop is the industry standard).
2. More important, & it is too often forgotten, be good at MARKETING (an MBA or a degree in advertising): the design of a commercial site must “pass a message” to the visitor, to make him BUY. Many designers, unfortunately, miss this point completely: you get pretty sites that do not sell…
3. A basic knowledge of how HTML works is sufficient for the Designer to understand what are the DEVELOPER’s requirements. Other languages are useful, but not necessary (That’s the job of the developer)

programmer & what is the best editor program for PHP?
I know you should know Corel draw 3D max, & Photoshop for design websites, logos & corporate identity & you should know html language, java script, php & asp.net for programming & you should know front page, adobe page maker, adobe go live & dream weaver for editing & you should know macromedia flash, switch max & flash for flash websites is that enough to become the best professional webmaster or there is any program you should know.

I have a few domain names, & I’m planning to create websites for them. Although I know Html, I just don’t have the time to create my own website from scratch. I don’t really have time for Dreamweaver or FrontPage either. Since I am not planning to use multimedia, is there a hosting company that provides decent website templates that look reasonably professional & can be modified, & also can be set up to accept payments such as PayPal or credit cards.

I have basic computer skills like MS Office, internet, Windows etc. I try for myself to do easy websites using Front Page (just on my computer’s hard disc). How to train to become professional web site designer-and set up my own bussines ?Should I buy any special HTML editors or other software ? Any books, courses etc. ? I live in London. Daniel
