I’m a graphic design student, & I know how to work with the Adobe creative suite. I was wondering, how long will it take me to learn web design? I’m just starting to learn HTML & CSS. Thanks

I plan to start doing web design business soon . My experience in this field is beginner to intermediate at the most. I was wondering how I can get customers? I plan to use craiglist to advertise myself soon. If anyone knows a better way to advertise myself please tell me. Since my skills are at the lower end, I will charge less compared to those more skilled counterparts. Of course no server side programmings involved. I also plan to charge my clients by custom template designs & pages. However, I have looked to other people’s questions on this topic, & many have answered saying that freelance web designers should be paid by hours. I don’t know how thats possible considering I’m doing this business over the internet. If anyone can answer this, please enlighten me. Also, Is paypal a fine way to get paid? I don’t want customers to reverse payment or whatsoever after receivng their website. How do you prevent this problem? Any links on how to start this busines would be appreciated.

I want to start a website similar to ratemyprofessor.com that generates revenue through advertising. However, I am a college student with no experience in web design. I don’t want the site to be second rate at all, which means I won’t be designing it. Which direction should I go in to produce a quality website on a low budget?

I’ve started it up officially in January after I had my first child. I am currently doing Public Relations for the church & designing on the side. It is hard because I am trying to juggle so many things at once & I want to go back to school for web design/photo.Any tips for helping to make this a smoother process?

If you are new to it, start the right way:
NO FRONT END EDITOR… just Notepad. Stay away from coffeecup, dreamweaver & all others.
You write your code in notepad, you FTP it to your site & check the result. If it is pure HTML, you can open your file with IE (from your drive) & see the result.
A good way is to check the source of some websites: this will guide you to what is necessary to make a site.
Need help with coding? go to www.w3schools.com: you will find HTML, XHTML, PhP, mySQL & all you need to know.
Once you master HTML, add a bit of javascripts (Google for scripts: there are masses out there & for free).
Later, get more proficient with PhP & mySQL.
But, in ALL cases, do NOT use editors: they make crap & unmaintainable code…

I would like to start a dating web site. I am interested in web design. I want to try an educate myself as much as I can. I am familiar with Dreamworks, Fireworks, & somewhat with Flash (flash yes, actionscript no.) I understand that there is a plethora of programs/scripts that I need to learn. I am ok with that. My question is this; what do I need to learn first? What should I spend the most time on? CSS,JavaScript, AJAX, SQL, Visual Basic, C#, (If I use Dreamweaver, how much HTML should I know?) etc. If I was to start designing tomorrow, what would I need to know most. I understand your first response will be ALL of it. But help me out. Is there something I could get by with learning as I go along, or learning later? I know this question is VERY elementary, I just want to make sure I don’t spend a month on something I would rarely use. Thank you so much for your help & understanding.

I hired a web design company several months ago to develop & host my website. There are several issues that need to be fixed before I can reasonably approve it. It is an ecommerce site, & too many obvious issues could dissuade potential customers. They seem to be fixing the appearance for individual items rather than fixing the programming issues. This means that as I add on more items, I am likely to have the same problems, again likely to dissuade potential customers. They are already charging me for the hosting.

as in make websites for people & charge them i want to know because i know how to make websites & i want to make websites for people & charge them like about $100 dont tell me to mow lawns or baby sit cause im not gonna a want to start my own small little business for a little while & my parents said i can but im not sure if its legal im cause im only 12

I’m very interested in Web Designing, although I have never done it before. I am a very creative, organized, & business savy person, & am considering a career in web design. I would like to start a home business where I could create Web Sites for small businesses in the area: they come to me with what they want, ideas… I design/create a web site for them & contact the companies needed (IP address, domain name, etc…) to get the web site up & running….
Where/how/what do I need to do to learn enough to create/design small web sites for small local businesses?
Can web design be accomplished using a user friend GUI or does it have to involve lots of programming & code (I did took a Visual Basic class in college & did great, but do NOT want to do web design if I will be coding my whole way thru it, not much into being a full time programmer…)
And how hard is it to get the web sites set up (who do you contact to get a domain name registered? how about getting a static IP address? do you need to have some kind of server host? or is that something my clients could lease from a internet provider company?) I am not really sure of the process I’d need to go thru past doing the designing of the web site…

Upon entering employment as a Web Designer, Ive heard all you have to get is a Web Design certificate & that you don’t need a degree in college…I havent been to school in about 16 yrs due to having kids, etc…Not sure where to start.
